Art Sherrod Jr. on the JodyJazz Tenor DV and ESP Soprano Mouthpieces

I didn't know Art before he started playing my pieces but once I checked him out I was glad that I did. His great playing, love of people and his good works make him a person to look up to, and it makes me very proud that he is a JodyJazz endorser. Check out Art, his spirit is contagious. www.artsherrodjr.com/index.php

Art Sherrod Jr. on the Jody Jazz Tenor DV
"Because of JodyJazz I love performing on tenor again. The DV is a KILLER tenor mouthpiece. Without mentioning specific manufacturers, let’s just say that I have tried almost all of the sax mouthpieces that are currently on the market and none can compare to the DV. Not one!! Not even the customized models that I have paid thousands of dollars over the years. This mouthpiece is very unique because it provides versatility that a contemporary and traditional player can appreciate, which you don’t find in most sax mouthpieces. Whether I am playing on a stage where I have to cut through the electric instruments or a room where subtleness is a necessity the DV has it all. The mouthpiece plays remarkably even and full through the range of the horn, even in the altissimo range where notes tend to become shrill.
Just a short testimony………….I picked my horn up from my repairman, Eric Beach, and I asked him to take a listen to the mouthpiece and tell me what he thought. He was absolutely blown away from the first note. Eric has been my repairman for many years, so he has had the pleasure, or misfortune, of hearing me play on a lot of the different pieces. He very quote was, “You have found a perfect marriage between the horn and mouthpiece”.
I feel if you don’t give this mouthpiece a chance you are doing a disservice to your performance. This piece does everything except play by itself."

On the Jody Jazz ESP Soprano
Regardless of the register, this soprano mouthpiece provides the fullness, warmth and clarity that I desire in my playing. I generally play without the spoiler just to maintain what I call a “modified” link sound. Bottom line…………..this is just a beautiful sounding soprano mouthpiece.

Art Sherrod Jr.'s Bio
Art began his musical journey at the age of 5 singing in the church choir; although his exposure actually began in the womb with his mother singing in the church choir and playing the organ. At the age of 13, Art joined the junior high school band and started playing the saxophone. Some of Art’s early inspirations were Cannonball Adderly, Gerald Albright, Kirk Whalum, Kim Waters and David Sanborn just to name a few.

In 2003, Art decided to step out on faith and pursue a career as a solo artist. As a solo artist, Art has managed to perform and/or co-headline shows with Chuck Loeb, Marion Meadows, Roy Ayers, Everette Harp, Bob Baldwin, Randy Scott, Noel Webb, Najee, Michael Henderson, Jean Carnes, Cuba Gooding & the Main Ingredient, and host of others. He has also performed on the Brazilian-American Jazz Festival in Rio De Janeiro, the Beantown Jazz Festival in Boston, the Volvo Jazz Festival and several others.

Art is very active in the community by working with the churches, the MS Society, and Progressive Horizons, which is an organization that works with foster children and mentally and physically challenged individuals. Art says, “I want to give while I can. I don’t want to experience a tragedy before I decide to do my part”.

Art released his debut studio project titled “All 4 Love” in January of 2005, which followed his live CD and DVD project titled “Art Sherrod Jr Live”. There is speculation that Art will be back in studio this summer recording his first Gospel/Christmas CD project. Until then………Art will continue to work the local, national and international circuits spreading his music, energy and God-given talents.
